Just a Wonderful Day!
Saturday was just a wonderful day at The Local Needle. The only thing on the schedule for the day was our 2nd meeting for the knit-a-long we had started 2 weeks prior. We had all cast on for Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Adult Surprise Jacket.
At approximately 10:30 that morning Kaycee popped in with some yummy broccoli cheese soup. She then let out a “Happy Birthday”! My birthday was coming in a few days, but she couldn’t know that, right?
When Mom stepped in with a crock full of chili, I knew something was up. Mom does not cook in the morning…unless it’s to make pies for the Holidays!
Next came Patty and Jeff, hauling nothing but a delicious Subway sandwich platter (I ended up having two of these!)
What’s a birthday without a cake? Homemade sour cream pound cake arrived with Carol.
Last, but not least in any way…April brought Nacho fixin’s (which I ended up enjoying the most at 10:00 that evening, they hit the spot!)
It was a good day…

We had some new visitors too!

Diane brought in a couple of her babies for P & J to see. They are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, just 4 weeks old. Another way of making the day special.
And let’s not forget why we were all there…our KAL.
Diane says this is what happens when you socialize more than you knit! She is using Alpaca With A Twist Highlander for her jacket.
Patty who had a math mishap, jumped back in with both feet!
She’s holding Dream In Color Classy in Spring Tickle.
Jeff as usual is doing a wonderful job and is also using Dream In Color Classy, but in Chinatown Apple…notice puppy in lap, heading back to Mama!
Kaycee is using Jojoland’s Rhythm color M10:

And April is using Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Bulky:

And Mom the same, but a different color and she is striping with some Mango Moon Recycled Viscose.
Raeleigh and Sarah made another visit to the shop:

Diane getting a little guidance from “the master”:

And puppy meets her new Mom.

A very special thank you to all that made it the perfect day! And…it didn’t end here, leftovers were taken home and I enjoyed a break from cooking dinner, which allowed for a very relaxing evening, perfect for knitting.
You guys managed to give me the one thing I needed the most, time!
Halloween ‘08
We had a nice Halloween. It was fairly quiet and this was the first year EVER that we haven’t decorated in some fashion.
Daughter brought Grandbabygiraffe by the shop for a surprise visit:

We have now lived in Macclenny for 4 1/2 years and I’m still amazed at how Tricks or Treats are “done” out here. Most likely due to the fact that it’s a very rural area.
We live in a neighborhood and just past 6 PM, this begins to happen:
Cars, Trucks, Trucks hawling trailers… all hauling Trick or Treaters. Some park inside the entrance of the neighborhood and get out and walk, others drive real slow as their child goes from house to house. Needless to say, more than half the neighborhood turn their lights off and fake a “not at home”. We choose to participate until the candy is gone, then do the same.
I thought it was a perfect time to work on a little knitting between treaters. We started a shop KAL at The Local Needle for EZ’s Adult Surprise Jacket. I chose Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Bulky in Grey Heather.
It kept me warm, laying over my lap, but wasn’t too long to cover up my boney feet.

This was how our cute little deranged giraffe looked most of the time…One hoof kept falling off and the hat would slide down where she couldn’t see.

This was one of the best costumes of the evening…my kind of mom! Two brothers dressed up as pirates and this was their ride!

October has already come and gone. Looking ahead tho, we have some major knitting months approaching, gotta love it.
