The Local Needle Celebrates a New Location

Posted in Yarn Shop activity at 2:18 pm by outdoorknitter

After days and days of moving… shifting… painting… cleaning… laughing and crying… The Local Needle has opened at a new location in Macclenny, FL.

And it was a wonderful day!

We began with a ribbon cutting with the Baker County Chamber of Commerce and then we opened our doors to all in attendance.   (It’s ok if you laugh at the pictures of me, you can’t say anything my girls haven’t already.  I new there was a reason why I usually took the pictures!)

The Girls

We celebrated with day-long refreshments, hourly drawings, and in-store sales while we met new friends and enjoyed the company.

Thanks to all that attended!

Here’s a shot of my Charlie Brown counter.  Every time we picked it up to move it…some of it would fall off.  We started to wonder if anything would be left by the time we got it to the shop, but like the Christmas tree, it cleaned up nice.

My sister (csalpacas.com) sent the beautiful orchid and I also have her to thank for this lovely dress form.  I’m lucky to have her…my sister that is!

When the day was over…some of us enjoyed a bottle of Dom Perignon - 1995 that is.

And last, a shot of a very happy and ever so thankful LYSO.

Spring into Fall with Mango Moon

Posted in Yarn Shop activity tagged , , at 6:05 pm by outdoorknitter

I feel like I’ve ‘fall’ en a bit behind these days…busy as ever, but still enjoying every bit of it!

The ribbon cutting and open house at my new location was just fantastic.  I’m waiting on a few more pictures before I write that post, should be in the next day or so.

I did get pictures of these new yarns tho…the Mango Moon booth always seemed to be packed at the TNNA show (in June), so I meandered in and found these great and very unique yarns!

First of all, if you’re not already familiar with Bali Sky, it comes in two colors, Dawn and Dusk and is made from recycled Sarongs.

Then, take Bali Sky and spin it with a little spandex and you get a stretchy Bali Sky called Nirvana (on the left).  Then, add a touch of bamboo to the mix and Gayatri is born (on the right).  Gayatri is similar to Bali Sky in that it comes in Dawn or Dusk.  Nirvana picks up the color of the Viscose, Blueberry and Aqua are shown.

Tie Dye and Tone on Tone Viscose are handspun and handdyed.  I’m looking forward to working with these!

Then small…not meek, but VERY powerful, is Capelli.  Capelli is similar to a laceweight yarn, but has SPRING…lots of it!  It’s designed to be run with your favorite yarn, which then gives your final garment a nice stretch.   I think the price works out to $.01 a yard - $3.50 for 350 yards!  If you don’t see a color at The Local Needle online store - I’d be glad to order it, just shoot me an email.

Last, but very important…let’s not forget that Mango Moon supports the Nepali Women’s Empowerment Group. A purchase of this yarn will help provide safe shelter, health care and education to families in Nepal and Indonesia.

We are located just off I-10 between Jacksonville and Lake City on U.S. 90 (Macclenny Ave.). AND…we are fortunate enough to have found a place adjacent to the local coffee shop.
